Inside the Magic: What actually happens in our Athletic Development and why Gymnastics still matters You’ve heard us talk a lot about building “foundations”, movement patterns, coordination, speed, agility, strength, confidence… But what does that actually look like in a session at Multi-Sport Kids Academy? Let’s break it down 👇 🧠 ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT (This is where future athletes are built, whether they go pro or not). These sessions are all about developing the full athletic toolbox in a fun, fast-moving format. Here's what we focus on: 🏃♀️ Speed & Basic Running Technique Not just “go fast”, we teach kids how to run properly. Think high knees, arm drive, body control and posture. Sprint relays, fun races, and drills that build both technique and fitness. 🔄 Agility & Change of Direction Quick feet, sharp turns, side steps, chase-and-tag games, and reactive movement drills. These help kids move fast and safely, improving reaction time and reducing the chance of injury. 💪 Strength & Power (Bodyweight-Based) We use crawling, jumping and other natural movements to build body strength, especially core and lower body, in a way that supports growing joints and muscles. ⚖️ Balance & Coordination We challenge body control through dynamic drills that require focus, timing and rhythm, like skipping, hopping, one-leg work, and mini obstacle runs. 🌀 Safe Falling & Rolling This is big. We teach kids how to fall properly, roll safely, and control their landings, key skills for reducing injury risk in sport and life (think broken bones). ✨ Resilience & Effort We encourage a growth mindset, try again, push yourself, and celebrate effort as much as outcome. These sessions help kids feel capable and proud, regardless of ability. 🤸♂️And what about Gymnastics? (We don’t run it, but we strongly recommend it!) While we don’t currently run gymnastics at MSKA, we can’t stress this enough: gymnastics is one of the most powerful developmental tools for children aged 5–12. Here’s why: 🧍 Body Awareness & Control Gymnastics teaches children how to move with precision, hold shapes, and control their bodies in space, all of which improve movement quality in any sport. 🌈 Flexibility & Mobility Being able to move freely and safely through a full range of motion is critical for long-term physical health. Gymnastics builds this early. 💡 Discipline & Focus Repetition, attention to detail, and refining technique, gymnastics lays the mental groundwork for long-term athletic success. So while we focus on outdoor based, high-energy athletic development, we highly recommend pairing it with a gymnastics program in your local area. Together, they create a complete foundation for movement confidence, strength, and skill. 🧩 Why It All Matters. Our Athletic Development sessions give your child: ✅ Sharper skills ✅ Increased body confidence ✅ A lower risk of injury ✅ A love of movement ✅ And a huge head start in any sport they try next When combined with gymnastics training elsewhere, the results can be transformational, building kids who move better, feel stronger, and carry themselves with confidence on and off the field. 🚀 Final Word You don’t need to wait for your child to “choose a sport” to help them become a strong mover.
